The farmhouse that you see today at Bach y Graig was originally the gatehouse, behind which stood the main house. Sadly, the main house became unsafe and was demolished some time before 1817.

Bach y Graig was built for Sir Richard Clough, who was the agent in Antwerp for Sir Thomas Gresham. It was Sir Thomas Gresham who founded the Royal Exchange in London in 1566, and Sir Richard Clough was responsible for supervising the delivery of materials from Antwerp used in its construction.

Bach y Graig was built in 1567. Nearby Plas Clough was also built for Sir Richard at about the same time. Together the two buildings are believed to be the earliest use of brick in Wales.

The use of brick and the style of the buildings at Bach y Graig show Sir Richard's close links with Antwerp and the Netherlands, as the buildings have a strong Dutch character.

The farmhouse provides both bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation.
