About the furniture

The two tables and four chairs by Pawswood at Gale’s Wine Bar are made from oak sourced from the Conwy valley. The design of the chair backs is influenced by the river Dee that runs through Llangollen.

About the furniture designer/maker

David Rowntree (Pawswood)

David Rowntree first became interested in wood as a child in his father’s workshop, here learning some of the skills that he still employs today. The more he experimented with various woods and techniques, the more convinced he became that local native timber, with its warm colours, fine grain and durability should be utilised.

By using a valuable renewable resource, nothing is taken from future generations. This, David believes, enriches the landscape and the local community.

After being involved in various different forms of woodwork from longbows to harps, in 2001 David decided to start up his own business and has since made a variety of pieces for clients including dining furniture, bookcases, mirror frames, rocking chairs and a gun cabinet.
