About the Furniture
The benches and chair are made from green oak felled in Coed y Marian as part of a Cadwyn Clwyd / Cadw funded project to create an archaeological trail around the Hen Caerwys deserted medieval settlement.
The felled tree was processed on site using a Lumbermate chainsaw attachment. From there the timber was moved to Mike’s workshop at Bron Fadog for construction and carving into its final shape, before sanding and oiling to finish.
About Mike Owens
Mike produces his own furniture and sculptures. He has been woodcarving for the last twenty years since completing a degree in fine art sculpture. All useful timber is utilised, with the smaller pieces being sold as firewood and the larger logs milled into planks and beams.
Only timber which has been felled as part of the management programme is used, with new pieces being designed to suit the species, size and shape of the trees available.
Pieces are designed for comfort, combining sculptural forms with the beauty of native timbers. The simplicity of design and the solidity of the wood ensure the furniture will stand the test of time.
