The estate woodlands at Mostyn, Flintshire and the Gloddaeth Woodlands at Llandudno, Conwy have been in the Mostyn family since 1400. With active management dating back to this time the woodlands have been able to produce a sustainable timber resource for the estate. Most of the woodlands owned by the estate are ancient semi-natural or ancient woodland sites.
The woodlands are managed fully in accordance with Forestry Commission guidelines. Within the woodlands all timber is carefully selected for felling or thinning. Felled areas are replanted with native trees to produce a sustainable hardwood timber resource for the future.
At the time of felling the tree is marked with a unique number. As the felled tree is cut in the sawmill each piece of timber is also marked with a corresponding number. This means that the timber you buy can not only be traced back to the woodland from which it came, but it can also be traced right back to the stump from which the tree was cut. Mostyn Estate Sawmill can provide a traceability certificate with all of its products.
Mostyn Estate Sawmill specialises in restoration oak beams, joists and lintels and in native hardwood boards. It can also supply larch, pine and spruce boards or beams. There is always a selection of sawn oak, sycamore, chestnut and cherry in the Sawmill yard, and newly-built drying sheds allow for an increasing supply of air-dried timber.
All timber is sawn to your specifications.
